LEADERS IN HEALTHCARE SAFETY

3/4/2013 - ANSELL LAUNCHES SEVERAL NEW SAFETY INNOVATIONS AT THE 60th ANNUAL AORN CONGRESS

ISELIN, NJ – March 4, 2013 – Ansell, a leader in protective solutions, will introduce several new O.R. safety innovations at this year’s 60th Annual Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Congress in San Diego, CA. These new innovations are part of the SANDEL brand of healthcare safety devices, which offers solutions to improve safety for patients and healthcare professionals.

The new SANDEL products that Ansell will introduce and demonstrate at AORN (booth #2922) include the following:

  • Disarm-It-All™ – The only counting and disposal box capable of single-handed removal of syringe needles, traditional scalpel blades, and beaver blades. The Disarm-It-All offers new safety features designed to reduce the risk of sharps injuries and exposure to bloodborne pathogens in addition to safely counting and disposing blades and needles.

  • Count In Progress™ Beacon – A nurse-developed innovation designed to help reduce the risk of retained surgical items by reducing distractions during the counting process.  In the U.S., retained surgical items occur approximately 39 times a week and 43% of cases report interruptions during the count process.* The Count In Progress Beacon alerts the surgical team of the count process, helps reduce distractions and unnecessary activity, and enhances compliance with AORN and the American College of Surgeons.  “The Count In Progress Beacon has really increased awareness of this critical process for our surgical team,” stated Margo Peterson, MS, RN, CNOR, Clinical Nurse Supervisor at University of California San Francisco Medical Center at Mt. Zion, after using the product in a clinical study.

  • ErgoPlus Anti-Fatigue Mats – A premium line of anti-fatigue mats designed to reduce the stress and strain on muscles and joints caused from standing for extended surgical procedures. SANDEL ErgoPlus mats are fluid and stain resistant and available in various sizes to accommodate all O.R. needs.

Ansell will also showcase an innovative new line of SANDEL O.R. Turnover Solutions designed to reduce the risk of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) and improve turnover time. The SANDEL STAT-PAC™ offers customized solutions including STAT-BLOC™ antimicrobial table linens, disposable armboard covers, pillow and headrest covers, disposable patient safety straps, STAT-BAG heavy-duty waste bags, and the STAT-MOP™ disposable non-linting mop head.

The SANDEL product line provides innovative solutions focused on Engineered Sharps Injury Prevention, Ergonomic Workplace Safety, O.R. Turnover Solutions, Correct Medication Labeling and Surgical Error Prevention.  For more information on Ansell healthcare safety devices, call 818-534-2500 or visit www.Ansell.com/SANDEL
